1)The Dream Stream

At the doorstep of Mountain River Lodge is the most famous Gold Medal trout stream in the state of Colorado, “The Dream Stream” – also named the Charlie Meyers State Wildlife Area.  And therefore, anglers from around the world come to stay at our Lodge!  The stream is a notorious stomping ground for fisherman looking for a trophy catch: running rainbow and cutthroat trout in the spring, and brown trout and kokanee salmon in the fall. 2)Eleven Mile State Park & Eleven Mile Canyon Recreation Area

A hop, skip, and a jump from Mountain River Lodge.  Eleven Mile State Park and Eleven Mile Canyon Recreation Area are parks you won’t want to miss during your stay with us.  Eleven Mile Reservoir, located in the state park, is one of the largest reservoirs in Colorado.  The lake is situated on an open alpine plain and known for its trophy fishing and boating. The reservoir feeds the Eleven Mile Canyon, an imposing river bed filled with crashing waters and granite boulder outcroppings. Fish on a scenic mountain lake or explore the length of a majestic Colorado River. Read more about both parks.

3)Florissant Fossil Beds

Beneath a grassy mountain valley in central Colorado lies one of the most diverse fossil deposits in the world.  Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument offers 15 miles of beautiful, yet lesser-known, hiking trails to explore. They also offer a free Junior Ranger Program, three short self-guided trails, a park video, museum exhibits, and bookstore. For additional information, please call (719) 748-3253. 4)Colorado Wolf & Wildlife Center

It all started when Lake George resident, Darlene Kobobe, owner of the Colorado Wolf and Wildlife Center rescued a wolf-dog by the name of Chinook in 1993.  The Center is now one of the country’s premier sanctuaries offering safe-haven for endangered wolves and wild canines.  Take a standard group tour, hug and pet the wolves on an interactive tour, watch a feeding tour, or howl with the wolves on an unforgettable moonlight tour.  The wild pack at the sanctuary is fun for the whole family and offers a valuable lesser-known wildlife education about the preservation of the diminishing American wolf population.

5)The Tarryall Road, Colorado

Take an  adventure into the wilderness with the family! Get ready and explore the Tarryall Road, a road stretching 36 miles from Lake George to Jefferson, with many historic and natural sites along the way. Adjacent to the Tarryall Road is Lost Creek Wilderness, 119,790-acres of wilderness, within the boundaries of the Pike National Forest.  The perfect day trip for hiking and picnicking with the family!  Here are some of the best hiking trails to explore in Lost Creek Wilderness.
