Antero Reservoir Camping and Fishing

Mountain River Lodge is just a short drive from Antero Reservoir, one of Colorado’s premier fishing destinations in Park County. Antero was built in 1909 and is currently owned by Denver Water. Open seasonally for boating and year-round for fishing, Antero Reservoir is renowned as the home of large trout due to its high-elevation (9000 feet) and relatively shallow water (around 18 feet). Recently reopened due to dam repair, the reservoir is an ideal setting for a fishing trip due to its stunning scenery, plentiful fish, and proximity to our picturesque lodge.

Camping

Free camping is another perk of this gorgeous location. Located within 100 feet of the lake itself, the campsite is accessible and includes restrooms and picnic shelters for a simple, seamless commute from Mountain River Lodge to the great outdoors. Sites are available on a first come, first serve basis and rarely too crowded to find a spot. The convenience and proximity make it perfect for that fishing trip getaway you’ve been planning with old friends, or the family bonding trip you’ve been waiting for your kids to be old enough for. You put yourself second so much in life: be it at work or taking care of your family’s needs, you need time and a place to unwind and enjoy yourself. Let Antero Reservoir be that sanctuary you’ve been looking for.

What to Bring

Antero is famous for its large trout—the Colorado record cutbow was caught at Antero, weighing in at a whopping 18 ½ pounds. Make sure the gear you bring is strong enough to match the size of the fish you’re hoping to catch. Bring flies like:

  • Scuds
  • Wooly Buggers
  • Midges
  • Adams
  • Generic bedhead nymphs
