Eleven Mile Reservoir and State Park

Eleven Mile is the perfect day trip for boaters and anglers. The Dream Stream is upstream of the Eleven Mile reservoir, making this large waterbody outstanding for fishing. Eleven Mile State Park is located less than 10 minutes from Mountain River Lodge. The long narrow reservoir is one of Colorado’s largest.  Anglers are consistently touting its outstanding fishing.  Reel in a rainbow, brown, cutthroat, kokanee, or pike!  Canoe, boat, or kayak.  Be forewarned, the reservoir area, which has an open basin and rangeland type topography, can be windy with the weather changing quickly.  Come prepared for all weather conditions.

Spinney Mountain Reservoir

A 28-minute drive from our Lodge takes you to the Gold Medal waters of Spinney Mountain Reservoir. This 2,500-surface acre lake is formed by the South Platte River and provides visitors with an excellent opportunity for high-country boating.  Whether it’s a lazy early morning pontoon boat cruise or challenging the afternoon high winds with a windsurf board, this reservoir provides enough water to meet your needs.  Waterbody contact activities including scuba diving, water skiing, wading, and swimming are prohibited.

Spinney Mountain Reservoir boasts world-class trout fishing.  Anglers from all over the world can’t get enough of the trophy-sized northern pike, rainbow, cutthroats and brown trout,  taken all summer long. Review the special fishing restrictions at Spinney Reservoir before you go.  The park is open to boating but there is no overnight camping – another great reason to stay at Mountain River Lodge!

Antero Reservoir

Antero Reservoir is the uppermost dam on the South Platte River. Just a 35-minute drive from Mountain River Lodge. Sports fishermen know this lake as the home of large trout. You can fish from the shore, but the best fishing is from a craft; belly boats/float tubes are popular, as well as hand-propelled and motorized boats. Grab your rod, jump in rowboats, canoes, or kayaks for a quiet float and a fishing experience you won’t forget.  This high-elevation reservoir is relatively shallow (18 feet or so). When full the water covers almost 20,000 acre-feet.  After several years of closure, due to drought management, Antero Reservoir is open again to anglers and boaters.

Weather Is Unpredictable on the Reservoirs
Calm and sunny can turn to thunderstorms and wind within minutes. Preparation is crucial when in a hand-propelled craft, so be aware of the proximity to shore and docking points on the lake.
