Dream Stream Fly Fishing

Also known as the Charlie Meyers Recreation Area, the Dream Stream is the best-known section of the South Platte River, and for good reason. The Dream Stream is the perfect environment for anglers on the hunt for trophy Rainbow, Cutthroat, and Brown trout. The Dream Stream flows through a high desert prairie, making it ideal for beginning anglers due to the lack of growth around the river. Located in scenic South Park, Colorado, the Dream Stream is the perfect place for that next big fishing trip you’ve been planning.

Backstory

You’re probably wondering where the Dream Stream gets its glorious name from. If you’re an angler, you’re in luck: this section of the South Platte River earned its name due to the size of the fish it produces. Cutthroat trout, Rainbow trout, and Cutbow hybrids migrated out of Eleven Mile Reservoir and into the glorious Dream Stream. The tailwaters from Spinny keep a reasonably-temperate stream for fish to enjoy (and ultimately not enjoy). With no trees to eat your fly, this is about as good as it gets for catching the fish of your dreams.

What to Bring

A good, diverse selection of flies is a good way to make sure that you’re making the most out of your trip to the Dream Stream. Fish hug the banks and the bottom of the stream, so be patient and make sure your fly selection is varied enough to attract the trout you’ve been waiting for. Some choice flies to bring include:

  • Dries
  • Nymphs
  • Scuds
  • Attractors
  • Terrestrials
  • Big/fluffy buggers
  • Bring different sizes of each!

Other essentials when fishing at Dream Stream: warm clothes and a fresh pair of eyes. You’ll want to stay comfortable despite the heavy winds, and you’ll want to stay focused long enough to catch that trophy fish you traveled for. When you’re done catching fish, take a trip back to Mountain River Lodge and enjoy our outdoor patio and grill today’s catch. With luxury amenities and a rustic elegance, you won’t find anywhere else, there’s no place you’d rather grill your fresh catch.
