Eleven Mile Reservoir, located in the state park, is one of the largest reservoirs in Colorado. The lake is situated on an open alpine plain and known for its trophy fishing and boating. The reservoir feeds the Eleven Mile Canyon, an imposing river bed filled with crashing waters and granite boulder outcroppings. Whether you’re looking to fish on a scenic mountain lake or explore the length of a majestic Colorado River, the area has much to offer.
Eleven Mile Reservoir and State Park
The Dream Stream is upstream of the Eleven Mile reservoir, making this large waterbody outstanding for fishing. The perfect day trip for anglers and boaters. Eleven Mile State Park is located less than 10 minutes from Mountain River Lodge. The long narrow reservoir is one of Colorado’s largest. Anglers are consistently touting its outstanding fishing. Reel in a rainbow, brown, cutthroat, kokanee or pike! You can canoe, boat or kayak. There is no swimming. Be forewarned, the reservoir area, which has an open basin and rangeland type topography, can be windy with the weather changing quickly. Come prepared for all weather conditions.

Eleven Mile Canyon Recreation Area
A stunning river canyon drive. The river is unleashed from the Eleven Mile Reservoir damn above, crashing down into the canyon floor. The entrance to Eleven Mile Canyon Recreation Area is just two-miles around the corner from Mountain River Lodge. For a $7 entry fee per vehicle, you can drive a five-mile narrow scenic gravel road, once the path of an 1887 passenger train.
Take in the lush forest of pine and fir trees, tremendous rock formations, and gorgeous pools. It’s a draw for anglers, hikers and photographers. Camping and picnicking are available in the Recreation Area. This is a must-do activity if you are staying at Mountain River Lodge.
