The Mountain That Inspired “America the Beautiful”

Our backyard is Pike National Forest. If you travel to Mountain River Lodge from Colorado Springs, Colorado on Highway 24 west, you will be treated to the perfect view of Pikes Peak Mountain, the area’s crown jewel.  In 1893 Katherine Bates, an English teacher from New England, visited the purple mountain majesty, and was inspired to write the well-known patriotic song, “America the Beautiful.”  The just over fourteen-thousand-foot mountain looms west of Colorado Springs and is the second-most visited mountain on the planet. Pike National Forest and Colorado Springs make up the Pikes Peak region.  Pike National Forest is home to the famous mountain. It is a massive wilderness playground, waiting for you to explore.  Colorado Springs is the second-largest city in the state, next to Denver.  It is a busy and growing city where you’ll find many attractions, restaurants, and shopping.  With so many activities in and around the Pikes Peak region, our staff can help you find the best way to experience it all.
